I’m Olivia! Stationer, calligrapher and coffee drinker!
I make beautiful things from paper in my studio by the sea in Devon. I’m so lucky having both the sea and Dartmoor on my doorstep, I can often be found at the beach searching for sea glass or hiking on the moor with my husband and 2 boys, who all have boundless energy. As a proud military spouse, having my own small business means I can work around my children, especially when I am solo parenting.
Nature features heavily in my design and I’m a sucker for all things floral! My favourite flowers are tulips, they featured heavily in my own wedding. They are one of the first signs of spring - my favourite season!
After spending years as a watercolour enthusiast and a calligrapher, I have organically turned my hand to making stationery for weddings and events. I particularly enjoy the challenge of using handmade recycled cotton paper. It is so beautifully thick, textured and tactile, yet can be extraordinarily difficult to work with. I have developed printing techniques to produce exquisite design on this glorious paper to give your guests an extra special first glimpse of your wedding or event.

Sustainability
My love of nature extends to both my design and ethos. Sustainability is one of the core principles of Olivia James Stationery. I am forever mindful of the impact that paper making can have on the environment. I want to create beautiful products with no harm to the environment.
I am on a journey to make my business as sustainable as possible and I am learning all the time.
Some of the measures I have already taken are:
Paper as a paper-based business, I am mindful of the impact that paper making can have on the environment and the waste that is generated. I am very careful about the papers that I use and I research how and where they are made. All of my papers come from sustainable sources, whether is recycled cotton paper made by hand or FSC certified paper. FSC certification confirms that the forest is being managed in a way that preserves, biological diversity and benefits, the lives of local people and workers, while ensuring it sustain economic viability. My papers are 100% biodegradable and recyclable in normal household recycling.
Packaging like my papers, I source my packaging carefully from a carbon neutral company. I use recyclable materials in my packaging or I re-use plastic packaging that I have received in previous deliveries.
Plastic I try to use as little plastic as possible and I do not create any stationery out of plastic eg acrylic or vinyl.
